Imagine an energy company where all the people who work there really care about the environment. We do. That’s why we strive to lead the way in this industry when it comes to clean air, clean fuels, and consistently improving our environmental performance.
The Right Thing for the Right Whale
Not all of our environmental initiatives belong in the refinery. As a matter of fact, some of our most important ones live elsewhere.
In partnership with the Canadian government, scientists, and environmental groups, we helped reduce the probability of ship and whale collisions in the Bay of Fundy by 95% for the world’s most endangered whale – the North Atlantic Right Whale.
And through our partnership with the New England Aquarium, we continue to support the protection of the Right Whale.

A Special Place for Students
Nature,
research, and technology come together at Acadia University in
the K.C. Irving
Environmental Science Centre and the Harriet Irving Botanical
Gardens, thanks to the generosity of the Irving family.
With
a focus on native flora of the Acadia Forest region, the Science Centre
facilitates state-of-the-art academic and research activities while the
Garden features over 6-acres of native plants, including rare and
endangered species, in their natural settings.
Also at Acadia
University, The Arthur Irving
Academy for the Environment is a recognized centre of scholarship on
environmental issues, including holistic, trans-disciplinary approaches
to environmental management, conservation, and sustainability of human
communities. |

Leading the Way
We’re always thinking ahead, especially when it comes to environmental advancements.
Our refinery was producing clean fuels like low sulfur gasoline years ahead of regulations; today, we're leading the way with the production of ultra-low sulphur diesel.
We also supply ultra-clean gasoline to the California market, the most environmentally stringent market in the world. And, we were the first and only oil company to receive a US Environmental Protection Agency Clean Air Excellence award. |

To Us, It’s like Winning the Stanley Cup
In 2004, we became the first Canadian refiner to be named North American Refiner of the Year by World Fuels. This award not only recognizes our clean fuels and refinery investments, but also our strong commitment to our people and our consistent advances in environmental performance. |

A Bicycle Built for Many
Sometimes, you can help the environment and have fun at the same time. That’s why many of our refinery employees get around the 780-acre facility on two wheels rather than four. Even small actions like riding a bicycle in and around our refinery can go a long way to help reduce energy consumption and perhaps a few inches around the waistline! |
