Our Scholarships

We’re proud to support students at every stage of their educational endeavours – particularly in the pursuit of post-secondary education. We offer the following scholarships to high school students throughout Atlantic Canada.

Primrose Scholarship at the University of New Brunswick Saint John

The Primrose Scholarship is an undergraduate entrance award that was established in 1999.  It is awarded annually to an undergraduate from the University of New Brunswick Saint John campus.  This $5,000 scholarship recognizes academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership.

Applicants are required to send a cover letter requesting consideration, a resume, their latest high school transcript and a 500-word essay on a topic chosen by the University. For more information, visit http://www.unbsj.ca/primrose/

Irving Oil Scholarships at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN)

Our donation of $250,000 to Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) created the largest endowed scholarships fund at the university.  Full-time students entering any field of study with high academic standing are eligible.

Two $6,000 scholarships are awarded annually to the general first-year student body and one or more $3,000 scholarships are awarded to dependents of Irving Oil employees. Irving Oil Fueling the Future Scholarship

Our “Fueling the Future” Scholarship was created in 2007 to further support our partnership with St. John the Baptist-King Edward School, and the accomplishments of the school’s alumni.  

Each year, two scholarships valued at $28,000 each (up to $7,000 each year for 4 years) are awarded to SJBKE Alumni graduating from St. Malachy’s High School and Saint John High School.  Recipients must demonstrate a commitment to school citizenship, academics, and most importantly, teamwork.

Irving Oil Outstanding Student of the Year Scholarship

The Irving Oil Outstanding Student of the Year was created in 1994 to acknowledge the fine accomplishments of outstanding students in the combined areas of academics, school projects and activities, team sports, spirit, and camaraderie.

The scholarship awards $3000 to graduating students from the nine local high schools in Greater Saint John, New Brunswick. Irving Oil Outstanding Student of the Year award winners are selected by each of the participating Greater Saint John high schools.

Irving Oil Employee Dependants Scholarship Program

Open to dependants of Irving Oil employees who are planning to attend university or college, this scholarship program provides for a total of nine $1500 renewable university scholarships and two $750 renewable college scholarships each year.

Renewals of existing scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic standing. To be considered for renewal, eligible students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and submit a short renewal form. Applications for this scholarship program are administered through Irving Oil’s Human Resources department.
