Soil and Water Analysis Details

We offer Tier 1 Petroleum Hydrocarbon Analysis following the Atlantic RBCA Guidelines for Laboratories.Tier 1 Analysis reports BTEX and total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) level.

For water samples, the volatile (VPH) portion of the analysis is determined by direct purge and trap GC/MS and the extractable (EPH) portion is determined by a hexane extraction with GC-FID analysis.

For soil samples, the VPH is determined by GC/MS analysis of a methanol extract and the EPH is determined by GC-FID analysis of a acetone: hexane extract.

Each water sample should be collected in one 1L bottle and 2 40ml vials without headspace. The bottles can be obtained from our lab by calling 1-800-563-TEST toll-free.

Each soil sample should be collected in a glass mason jar with a Teflon lined lid with minimal headspace.

Samples should be kept cold during shipment so a cooler with ice is recommended. Regular turnaround time is 10 business days, and rush samples are turned around in 2-4 days (subject to availability).
