Our executive team is responsible for leading the daily operations of Irving Oil. Meet the team members who help guide our company:
Gary Bischof, General Manager of Supply chain & Business development
Gary Bischof is responsible for Logistics & Distribution, Engineering and Projects, and New Business Development at Irving Oil. Gary has been with Irving Oil since 1990 when he joined our Refinery Team. In previous roles, Gary was responsible for the LNG Plant; Bayside Power; Refining; Supply, Planning & Trading; as well as Logistics & Distribution. Prior to joining Irving Oil, Gary worked in Fort McMurray, Alberta at an oil sands synthetic crude operation.
Gary graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He also received his MBA from Queen’s University in 2000.
Gary is an avid runner and he enjoys biking, skiing and waterskiing. Gary and his wife, Linda, have two sons.
Tanya Chapman, Chief Human Resources Officer
Tanya Chapman joined the Irving Oil Executive Team in June of 2010 and has responsibility for all of the Human Resource and Public Affairs teams across the company.
She graduated from St. Thomas University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education degree. Tanya also has a certificate in Human Resources Management and a Professional Designation in Human Resources (CHRP). She is currently enrolled in the MBA with UNBSJ in partnership with Irving Oil.
Tanya places an emphasis on personal and professional development by offering workshops and educational programs inside as well as outside of our company. She is one of the founding members of the E3 Women’s Forum at Irving Oil and has helped to establish a mentoring program for this group in addition to creating “Voice Power” which is a program designed to help women become more effective presenters.
She has past experience as a member of Learn NB Board of Directors, Advisory Counsel for UNB’s College of Extended Learning, Governor of the St. Thomas University Board of Governors and President of the St. Thomas University Alumni Association.
Ken Flemming, General Manager of Supply, Sales and Marketing
Ken Flemming leads the Supply, Sales and Marketing groups for Irving Oil and has been a member of the Executive Team for several years.
Prior to this, Ken’s held positions such as: Finance Officer, Director of Resources and Physical Assets, General Manager of Supply, Planning and Trading, and Refinery Business Manager. While holding these various positions, Ken was responsible for several large capital programs at the Refinery and other parts of the company.
Ken is originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary’s University, with a double major in finance and economics.
Ken and his wife Wanda have two daughters.
David Glassberg, Chief Legal and Governance Officer
David Glassberg is a member of Irving Oil’s Executive Team. He also serves as the Company’s Chief Legal and Governance Officer, with responsibility for Legal Affairs, Government Relations, Governance, Security, Environment, Health & Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Risk Management. He has been with our Company since 2001.
David is a graduate of Colgate University (1972) and Albany Law School (1975).
Harry Hadiaris, General Manager of Branded Wholesale & Retail Marketing
Harry Hadiaris is General Manager of Branded Wholesale & Retail Marketing. He has been with our company for 10 years and throughout his tenure, had responsibility for all retail activities in New England. Harry has extensive experience in all aspects of the retail and wholesale petroleum industry, including marketing, acquisitions and integrations.
Harry received his undergraduate degree from Colby College and his MBA from Krannert School of Business at Purdue University.
Harry is married to Marcia and they have two children.
Jonathan McKenzie, Chief Financial Officer
Jon joined the Irving Oil Executive Team in May of 2011 as Chief Financial Officer. He leads the Finance and IT groups for Irving Oil.
Previously, Jon worked at Suncor Energy Inc. where he held the position of Vice President and Controller. He has worked with Suncor in various capacities since 2001 including: Vice President, Finance Integration and Sustainment; Vice-President Upgrading Operations; General Manager, Operations Support; Director, Financial Operations (Oilsands) and Manager, Investor Relations.
Jon has also worked with Crestar Energy Inc. as Treasury Manager; Manager, Oil and Gas Marketing and, Business Development Manager, South America as well as Arthur Andersen & Co. as a Senior Accountant. Jon is a Chartered Accountant and he has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
Jon and his wife Debbie have five children.
Mark Sherman, General Manager of Irving Oil Refining
Mark joined Irving Oil in 2008 as the General Manager of the Irving Oil Refinery. Prior to this, Mark worked in Fort McMurray for 25 years with Syncrude, the world’s largest producer of synthetic crude oil from oil sands. While with Syncrude, Mark held several operations positions, including Vice-President of Operations.
As General Manager of the Irving Oil Refinery, Mark is responsible for operations and for developing growth opportunities. In 2009, Mark successfully led a $220 million turnaround, the largest ever in the company’s history.
Irving Oil operates Canada's largest refinery in Saint John, N.B., which has reached production rates in excess of 300,000 barrels per day. The refinery exports over 80 per cent of its production to the U.S., and accounts for 75 per cent of Canada's gasoline exports to the U.S.
Mark grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program at the Technical University of Nova Scotia. Mark also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Mount Allison University. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
Mark and his wife Teri have three children. Mark enjoys working in the community; he has coached minor hockey and baseball for 15 years. He also assisted in developing partnerships with local schools in Fort McMurray that focus on keeping students in school.
