QUISPAMSIS, NB — Irving Oil unveiled a $250,000 contribution to the future of the qplex, the largest and newest recreation complex in Quispamsis. John Decourcey of Irving Oil presented the contribution to Quispamsis Mayor, Murray Driscoll at center ice in front of a sold-out crowd of 1,500 hockey fans prior to Saturday evening’s Saint John Sea Dogs exhibition game.

“Irving Oil is a long-time supporter of our community’s key gathering places, including parks, schools and so many others – now, the company’s support of the qplex shows the ongoing commitment of Irving Oil to the growth and development of our region,” said Mayor Murray Driscoll. “Irving Oil showed this support by being the first to host an event at the qplex, the 20th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup hockey tournament last March, and this donation brings the company’s support to another level. It’s a tremendous gift that will not only benefit the facility for years to come, but the people of Quispamsis and beyond.”

Serving thousands of residents in the Greater Saint John area, the qplex is a $24.5 million multi-purpose recreation facility featuring an NHL-sized ice surface, outdoor pool, walking track and 4000 square-foot conference centre.

“This area is our home, and it means a lot to support a facility that has quickly become the heart of Quispamsis,” said John Decourcey, Irving Oil. “The qplex represents the hard work, tenacity and community spirit that’s alive and well in this community – it’s a credit to the folks across this region who worked together to make the facility a reality. These efforts deserve to be applauded and we’re extremely proud to support the future of the qplex.”
