Company Makes Multi-Million-Dollar Investment in Existing Facility

HALIFAX, NS — Irving Oil has announced that it will be making a multi-million-dollar investment in its existing Woodside Marine Terminal, located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As a result of changing market circumstances, the company has initiated the process of reactivating the facility.

“Our company has proudly served customers in Nova Scotia for the last 80 years,” said Mike Thompson, Director of Logistics and Distribution at Irving Oil. “This investment reflects our confidence in and commitment to Nova Scotia as we continue to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable energy supply to the province.”

The Woodside Marine Terminal was operated safely and reliably in the Woodside community for nearly 50 years until its deactivation in 2002. The reactivation project is 100 per cent privately funded and involves significant investment in the existing assets on the current site, including the storage facilities, loading equipment, wharf, and supporting infrastructure. The company’s investment will enhance the facility aesthetically, and maintain high levels of environmental and safety standards.

“As we begin the process of reactivation, the facility will be designed, constructed, and operated to meet or exceed all applicable provincial and federal regulations and in consideration of community interests,” said Thompson. “We are committed to keeping our neighbours informed throughout the project and community engagement will be a key part of our process.”

The facility upgrade will enable the storage and distribution of gasoline, diesel, home heating oil, marine transportation fuel, and jet fuel for customers throughout Nova Scotia. The project’s construction phase is expected to last about 18 months and create more than 200 jobs.
