Stronger, inclusive teams and communities
Our company has been built on a core value that people matter – our employees, our customers and our communities. At Irving Oil, we seek out ways to show our support for inclusion in our workplaces and communities, and to invest in organizations and initiatives that strengthen human connections and promote equality.
Diversity & Inclusion Council
Comprised of employees representing diverse backgrounds and minority groups, our Diversity & Inclusion Council strives to continue to improve our corporate culture – promoting environments that encourage, support and celebrate the diverse voices of our employees. Our Diversity & Inclusion Council is championed by two members of our executive leadership team, has set a vision and roadmap for our company, and provides a centralized approach to stewarding this work.
Working together with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the D&I Council supports initiatives that promote equality and belonging, and that improve organizational performance.
Diverse teams, inclusive culture
At Irving Oil, we strive for a work environment where each of us feels we belong, can bring our whole selves to work, and where we treat our fellow employees with kindness and respect.
To help us achieve this, we have made a commitment to our people that all senior-level and director-level employees, as well as all teams involved in stewarding matters of diversity and inclusion at Irving Oil, are required to undertake mandatory training in managing individual unconscious bias. This is part of our commitment to diversifying our teams and fostering belonging.
Our employees regularly take part in keynote presentations designed to educate themselves on matters related to diversity and inclusion, including mental health, conflict resolution and gender parity.
Supporting causes that champion diversity
As part of our commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities where we operate, our company has continued to invest in organizations that champion diversity, every day of the year.
Across the geographies where we work, we invest in community organizations that support and empower LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and other sexual identifying) individuals, QTBIPOC (Queer & Trans Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) and their families, newcomers, women, people with disabilities and STEM education.
Our employees lead the charge when it comes to supporting the communities we love. Through our workplace giving and volunteering program, we also empower our teams to give back by supporting them with time away from work to volunteer and donation matching each year.
Hands down, one of the greatest employee celebrations of the year for our company is Pride, which we bring to life in many ways at our worksites and in the communities where we work. But welcoming and supporting LGBTQ+ employees and customers doesn’t end when Pride celebrations are over. Each year, we donate to causes directly helping LGBTQ+ people, Queer & Trans Black Indigenous People of Colour, and their families.
