Compressed natural gas will provide energy cost savings for NS commercial customers

HALIFAX, NS — Irving Oil today announced that Acadia University will begin receiving compressed  natural gas (CNG) at its location in Wolfville, Nova Scotia this year.  The University will be the first facility in the Annapolis Valley to receive compressed natural gas via truck transport.

“We’re very pleased to have partnered with Acadia University and are pleased they will benefit from the potential cost savings of this leading-edge natural gas technology,” said Paul Browning, President and CEO, Irving Oil. “Compressed natural gas provides industrial customers like Acadia University and other commercial customers in Nova Scotia a less expensive, clean-burning, high-quality fuel alternative.”

The transportation of compressed natural gas is very similar to gasoline or propane transport, and Irving Oil has safely handled and delivered energy in multiple forms to customers for decades.

“Acadia’s conversion to compressed natural gas for our steam plant is an important element in our campus plan to lower costs, improve our operating efficiency and reduce our environmental footprint,” said Ray Ivany, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University. “Irving Oil has been a trusted energy supplier to Acadia for many years and its proposal to supply CNG to our new facility best met our operating requirements, our timeline for conversion and our commitment to our community. Through an investment by the Province of Nova Scotia’s Excellence and Innovation Fund and our continued relationship with Irving Oil, Acadia’s CNG conversion project will position us as a leader in using new energy alternatives in the Annapolis Valley.”

Irving Oil has been processing and delivering energy in multiple forms to Atlantic Canada and New England customers since 1924, providing diesel, heating oil, propane, bunker, natural gas and other products. “Every day our employees make up to 6000 energy product deliveries by truck. Delivered natural gas is an extension of our existing natural gas and trucking business and a great option for customers who don’t have access to the natural gas pipeline,” said Browning.
