Saint John, NB – Irving Oil is celebrating 20 years of its flagship community program this year – Fuel the Care – as it continues to make a difference for families with children requiring medical care. This year, to help fuel the care for more families, Irving Oil is doubling its contributions to the program, as well as expanding Fuel the Care across the Atlantic Basin to Ireland, where it has operations.

Since 2002, Irving Oil has supported more than 80,000 families in Eastern Canada and New England with the program.

“We’re very thankful for our customers who make this program possible,” says Irving Oil Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Sarah Irving. “In supporting Irving Oil, they help to support Fuel the Care – helping families when they need it most.”

This year, the Fuel the Care program is expanding and will now be offering support to families in Ireland through a new partnership with Children’s Health Foundation. Irving Oil has operated the Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery – Ireland’s only refinery – since 2016, and proudly serves customers operating under the retail and marketing Top Oil brand.

“We are extremely excited and grateful to partner with Top Oil,” says Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Children’s Health Foundation. “The rising cost of living has brought added pressure to families of sick children across the country. The Top Oil fuel vouchers will help ease that pressure when they need to travel to appointments in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres.”

This year, many are seeing an increase in the cost of living, which impacts families in their day-to-day lives. The pressures of higher costs are especially felt for families who must travel long distances to access medical care for a child. In recognition of these challenging times, Irving Oil is continuing to help ease the burden on families by doubling its fuel card donations to its seven partner hospitals in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and New England in 2022, for an annual total of almost $1 million.

The company is celebrating Fuel the Care Day on Wednesday, October 19, with employees at select retail sites in Canada, the US and Ireland washing windshields, pumping fuel and thanking customers for supporting Fuel the Care by choosing Irving Oil.
